Valorizing a Student’s Full Linguistic Repertoire: Translanguaging in Dual Language Settings

This session will examine the importance of talk in schools, specifically the importance of translanguaging in a dual language setting. Video excerpts from kindergarten classrooms and high school study sessions will demonstrate the potential for increased learning that comes from students using their entire linguistic repertoire when grappling with new concepts. Participants will discuss opportunities they have to capitalize on translanguaging opportunities in their classroom and will leave with strategies in hand that they can use when they return to their school sites.
