Because language is embedded into all content, Science is the perfect vehicle for Dual Language Learners to explore language in meaningful ways.  The concrete, hands-on nature of science provides entry points into content for learners at every language level.  The complexity of concepts and newness of the Language of Science to both native English and Spanish speakers make it the ideal content to level the playing field and provide multiple opportunities to practice key Common Core language skills like asking and answering questions, providing evidence to support arguments and constructing explanations of newly learned concepts. We will explore practical strategies to help dual language learners develop language for productive, useful purposes.
