This session will discuss One City Project's programs and lessons-learned for supporting languages that are highly represented by students and parents but that lack formal programming in schools. Languages include: Arabic, Cantonese, Korean, Russian, Somali, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.
We will be discussing the challenges in developing reliable pipelines for bilingual speakers in these languages to becoming certificated teachers, and how One City is meeting these challenges through effective community building, language proficiency support, and recruitment starting at the college level with heritage language speakers.
